MAKING SHEET CORK PLACEMATS AND COASTERS : Crafts for Kids & Teens

Here is a great idea for using sheet cork to make some cook placemats and coasters. You can buy sheet cork on Amazon.com or at a crafts store...many stores sell it now because people like to use it to make their own cork boards. Eitehr way, using cork for placemats and coasters is a perfect idea considering cork is very absorbent.

Cork Sheet Placemats and Coasters

CRAFTS MATERIALS NEEDED:

pencil

scissors

square

tin cans

sheet cork

crayons

How to Make Them:

For coasters, 1/16-inch cork is usable, but 1/8-inch will stand up a lot better. For placemats, use only 1/8-inch or thicker. For cutting circles for coaster blanks, use a tin can as a guide, and draw around the can with a pencil, as illustrated. Then cut out the circle. You can also use other object or stencils to trace cool shapes onto the cork to then cut out. You can also use sheets of cork, as they come, for placemats. You can either paint a design on the cork or you can use crayon. Either way, make the cork placemats and cork beautiful with your vast amounts of creativity!
