Alebrijes - - These imaginative creatures are called Alebrijes (ali-bre-haze). In Mexico (Oaxaca) they are made from Copal wood which is native to Oaxaca, Mexico. In Mexico, they are creatively carved by the artists hand, and often painted by family members - no two pieces will ever be exactly alike. These fanciful creations were made by assembling wood scraps and taking the same care in painting the details.
Bark Paintings - - Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by making a version of a Mexican papel amate (bark paper) painting. The "canvas" used in this folk art is made by boiling bark and pounding it flat; for our no-sweat substitute, we used a section of a brown paper bag.

Yarn Painting Crafts Instructions- - The Huichol Indians of Mexico are known for their yarn paintings. The Huichols take beeswax which they melt in the sun, and spread it over a piece of wood.
