ARMADILLO CRAFTS FOR KIDS: Make your own arts and crafts armadillos projects with the following decorations, instructions, patterns, and activities for children, teens, and preschoolers

Armadillos are mammals with a leathery armor shell. The word armadillo means "little armored one" in Spanish. There are 20 varieties of armadillo and all but one live in Latin America. Armadillos live in temperate and warm habitats, which includes the rain forests, grasslands and semi-deserts. They have a low metabolic rate and also has a lack of fat stores. Currently the population numbers are threatened by habitat loss and over-hunting.

Children can safely learn about armadillos by doing simple educational crafts and activities. They can make armadillos from paper using the origami method. Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. There are a lot of tutorial online, so you will not any problem finding one.

They can also make a simple armadillo by taking a milk or cream carton and cover the sides and the top with a brown paper bag such as a large grocery bag. Then cut holes in the sides for the feet and use the top of the carton for the face. Roll up brown paper (piece of a brown paper bag) for the tail, nose and ears. Finally use a marker to draw the patterns, eyes and nose.

There are so much ways you can make an armadillo using materials you can find all around the house. All you need is your imagination and a picture of an armadillo!

How to Make Paper Armadillo in the Desert Picture

Armadillo in the Desert Picture

Please click here to see this craft's picture larger. Start off this craft with a blue piece of construction paper. Then either paint yellowish-tan hills or cut it out of construction paper (and glue it on). Then start painting cacti (cactus)...as in illustration B. Finish painting the cacti by drawing a letter 'J' shape on both sides. You can paste the hill and toss a little sand or glitter on it to make it look more like a desert, but this is optional (illustration c). Cut shapes out of construction paper...such as leaf shapes, a half circle, a letter 'J' shape, and letter 'M' shaped feet. You can add designs like triangles and curves to the armadillo shell. Then glue all the pieces together and put on top of the desert.
