One of the most popular Halloween superstition has to do with black cats. Several legends exists about black cats being evil, causing bad luck, being the familiars of witches, and many other dark things. For this reason, black cats grace many Halloween decorations.
You can make a cat mask from a paper plate, black paint, black chenille stems, elastic, glue stick and scraps of paper(black, pink and green). To make this, you first need to paint the back of the plate black and let it dry. Then cut out two eye holes. For the whiskers, cut three short pieces of black chenille stems and glue them to the center of the mask. Use the paper scraps to make the eyes, nose and two ears. Finally punch a small hole on either side of the mask for the elastic.
You can also make a spooky cat Halloween decoration from a black garbage bag by placing a rubber band tightly around each corner of the garbage bag about 6 inches from the end. and stuffing the garbage bag with several pieces of newspaper. Rubber band off to make the head and spread open the banded off sections of the bag and finally tape down part of each to form the ears.
Take a knee-high black sock and cut it about half way up. We will be using the bottom part of the sock...but keep the other part so that you can make ears. Then fill with cotton or other filling and then tie a bow, right below the heel of the sock, as seen in picture #3 above. Then cut 2 slits at the bottom. You can glue or sew button eyes on. You can either sew on whiskers and a mouth or use white paint. Cut leaf shapes out of the top part of the sock that we told you to put aside. Then have an adult hot glue them on the head - or you can sew them on. To finish off the cat, braid the 3 strips of fabric at the bottom of the cat....as seen in picture #4...this will be the cat's tail.
Here is a fun craft to make and really easy to make. This craft requires no folding so it is pretty simple to create. First print out the following paper cat template. This is sturdier if you print it out on card stock, but it is optional. Cut out the cat's body and legs. Also cut the slits in the cat's body where you see the dotted lines. Then insert the cat's legs in the slits to make the standing cat. Then just stand the cat up and scare all of your friends for Halloween.
