How to Make an Abe Lincoln Top Hat for President’s Day

Yesterday I showed you how to make a an Easy George Washington Hat for President’s Day.  Well, it wouldn’t be right to make a hat and celebrate George Washington’s special day if we don’t do the same thing for Abraham Lincoln.  So, today I will show you how to make an Abe Lincoln Top Hat for President’s Day.  After all, President’s Day is about honoring both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  And, what better way to honor Abraham Lincoln than to make his top hat.  So, grab the materials needed and let’s get started.

Materials Needed

Oatmeal Container

Black Felt, Paper or Foam

Paper Plate

Black Paint

Pen or Pencil

Scissors

Glue

 

Step 1



Grab an Oatmeal Container.

Take the cap of the rolled oats container and cover with black felt

Put the cap on the box and then wrap black paper, felt or craft foam around the box

How to Make Oatmeal Containers Baby Doll Cradles Craft for Kids

If you make a little cradle like this for your favorite doll, you can be sure she won’t disturb you during the night with her crying.  This oatmeal container / box cradle is very easy to make and it really turns out great. Have fun!

Crafts Materials Needed:

– oatmeal box

– cardboard

– ruler

– pencil

– magazine cut-outs

– glue

– scissors

– paints and brush or crayons

Step 1

Remove the cover from the oatmeal box and save it as you will need it later.

With a pencil and ruler, mark off 2 and 1/2 inches from the bottom of the box, for the hood of the cradle.

Cut away the upper half of the remainder of the box. Directly in the center of the under part, and one inch from each end, make two crosswise slits, a little more than one inch in length, as in the illustration above.

Fit the tabs of the rockers into the slits in the under part of the cradle.

Glue the cover back onto the box for a footboard. Paint the cradle and allow it to dry thoroughly. To decorate the cradle, glue on magazine cut-outs, or decorate with colored wax crayons, as in illustration C.
