Step 3

Step 3 : Weaving Paper Felt Hearts Craft Idea for Children

Now this is the weaving part of the craft. Take strip ‘A’ on the yellow paper and weave it through the pink one. Notice that you don’t simply weave it…you slip the openings over the fingers (they look  like hands / fingers to me). Then after you have done this, go to letter ‘B’ and do the same thing, except this time go over number ‘1’. Take a look at the image below to see how it should turn out.

Step 4

How to Make a Message Board Box Organizational Craft Idea for Kids

If your family practically runs an answer-phone service for you when you’re out, they’ll appreciate this handy message taker box. You can use this as a phone call message organizational center for the rest of the family as well. The box opens up for paper, pens, and pencils.  You have the choice to but a clock face on the top of the box or to put a chalkboard on the top of the box.

How to Make a Message Board Box Organizational Craft Idea for Kids

Crafts Materials Needed:

– prong fastener

– construction paper or cardboard

-scissors

-marker

-cardboard box

-notepad

-pencils

-OR chalkboard paint and chalk

Decide whether or not you want a chalkboard or a clock on the top of the box. If you want a chalkboard, skip steps 2 through 5.

If you want the clock on the top of the box, just start with step #1.

Step 1

Use a cigar box, candy box, or other box made of heavy cardboard. Put a note pad and a pencil inside.

Step 2

Glue a construction paper or cardboard clock face on top. You can trace around a bowl or other round object to make a nice circle.

Step 3

Now, take your marker and write out the numbers on the clock. It is easiest to make the clock numbers evenly spaced by writing out the numbers on each quarter … 12, 3, 6, and 9. Then go ahead and draw the numbers in between.

Step 5

Now, either cut the hands out of cardboard or construction paper….make the minutes hand noticeably shorter.

Step 6

Now, take the prong fastener and put it through both hands, the circle shape, and the box. Then open up the prongs in the back of the box. Now the clock’s hands should move smoothly.

Step 7 – If You Want Chalkboard on Top of Message Box

If you want a chalkboard on the top of the box, then take chalkboard paint and give the top of the box several thorough coats of chalkboard paint. Let dry. Put chalk in the box and an eraser.

To use the Message Board Box:

If you are using the clock on the top of the box, set the hands for the time you expect to return home, each time you leave. Your family will be able to tell callers the best time to call back again. If you made the top of the box into a chalkboard message center, then family members and friends can leave messages to each other or take down phone messages.

There is paper and pencils inside the message box…utilize this for messages that need to be portable.  Have fun.

How to Make Toy Movie Box Craft for Kids on Rainy Day

You can make movies out of your comic books or your own drawing, and have loads of fun showing them in this Peep-hole Movie Theater. Learn how to make this toy movie / cartoon show box out of a cardboard box and creativity. Find out how to make your own toy with the following easy directions.

How to Make Toy Movie Box Craft for Kids on Rainy Day

Crafts Materials Needed:

*Shoe-box

*Comic book (or old magazine)

*Scissors

*Paper

*Paste (or Scotch tape)

*Scissor

Directions for Making the Movie / TV Show Box:

You can make movies out of your comic books and have loads of fun showing them in this Peep-hole Movie Theater.

Step 1

Take the bottom part of a shoe-box. Cut a slit about 1/4 of an inch wide across the bottom of the box, as shown by the colored lines in the picture above. Be sure that the slit is a little shorter than the full width of the box. Then draw two diagonal lines across the other end of the box, as shown by the dotted black lines. Using your scissor, make a peep-hole about 1/2 an inch wide at the point where these dotted black lines cross. This is shown as the solid colored blue spot above.

Step 2

Take the lid of the shoe-box and cut a slit in it directly above the slit in the bottom of the box, as shown by the colored lines in the picture above. Draw three lines, as shown by the colored dotted lines. Cut through the box with your scissor along these lines, to form a skylight.

Step 3

To make a film, cut paper into strips a little narrower than the slits of your movie box. Then paste these strips together to make a film about 36 inches long. Cut out pictures from your comic book, one by one, and paste them on the film paper with paste or Scotch tape.

Step 4

The picture above shows how you slide the end of the film through the slit in the lid and down through the slit in the bottom of the box. Cut the end of the film to a point, as shown above. That will make it easy for the film to slide through the slits. Be sure to raise the skylight when you are showing the movies so that light is thrown on the pictures. Bend up the skylight along the black dotted lines shown above.
Of course you don’t have to show comic book movies. You can paste any sort of pictures on your film, like movie stars, baseball players, etc. Colored pictures look better than black and white pictures, but they all look wonderful through that peep-hole.

A box of similar shape will make a fine little cabinet with opening doors. The picture above shows how to cut out the cabinet’s doors. Draw little hinges on the uncut side of the doors. Use paper clips for handles.

Make a Cardboard Doll House Table

You can make tables of all sizes out of halves of boxes. Just cut out the four sides of your box in the way shown by the colored lines in the picture above.

You will then have the sturdy little one-piece table which is illustrated in the picture above.

Make a Cardboard Doll House Arm Chair

Here’s how you make an arm chair: Take the lid of a little box and use it to make the table shown in the previous step. This will serve as the bottom half of the arm chair.

You form the top of the arm chair out of the other half of the box. Cut one of the walls completely away. To shape the arms, draw lines on each side of the facing walls, as shown by the colored lines in the picture above.

Now paste this piece on top of the base and your arm chair will look above.

Other Doll House Furniture and Decorations

To make the bed, paste a piece of pretty  material over a shallow box. Then paste a little ruffle around the sides.

The spice cabinet is made by pasting half a tiny box on the kitchen wall.

You can hang a pocket mirror above the bureau.

Use old magazines to cut out little pictures for the walls. Make rugs out of scraps of cloth or paper.

The previous arts and crafts project that we did was to make a cardboard doll house out of old cardboard boxes.
