How to make and Sew a Bear Pencil Case for Back to School

– dark blue cotton cloth
– canvas – to double the bag
– pen
– scissors
– one black button, two beads
– needle and thread
– zipper

Step 1.

Take the light blue cloth and fold it in half…

Cut it out.

[ad#ahc]

Now the two sides are united by the lower part.

Step 2.

Draw the muzzle and two ovals for the ears on dark blue cloth…

Step 3.

Open the light blue oval and place it on top of the canvas…

Place the canvas on the light blue cloth…

… and fold in half to have the head of the bear.

Step 4.

Sew the two parts together, using a blanket stitch along the sides. (To make a blanket stitch, push the needle through the fabric then pull the needle through the loop.)

Sew 2/3 of it then prepare one ear. Take an ear oval and fold it in half…

… then continue to sew over it…

… like this.

Step 5.

Place the muzzle on the lower part of the head…

… and sew it here.

Like this.

In the upper part of the muzzle sew the black button…

… as a nose.

Step 6.

Mark the places for the eyes…

And sew the beads there…

… like this.

Step 7.

Start on the lower part and sew the other part of the head and the other ear.

Step 8.

We will add a zipper from one ear to the other…

How to Make a Paper Bird Cage Craft Idea for Kids

This is another fun paper craft that would be fun to make on a rainy day. These foldable paper bird cages turn out so beautifully, you can even give them away as gifts.

NOTE: The steps might seem simple, but they need to be followed carefully. Don’t be discouraged if you need to try this more than once  to get it just right.

How to Make a Paper Bird Cage Craft Idea for Kids

Crafts Materials Needed:

Paper

Scissors

Step 1

step1

Start with a square piece of paper or cut down a piece of paper into a square.  Then fold the lower right corner inward and upward to the upper left.

Step 2

step2

Now you have a triangle. Now fold its lower left corner inward and upward  to the upper right corner.

[ad#ahc]

Step 3

step3

You now have a smaller triangle. Fold its right corner inward and to the left, as a final fold.

Step 4

step4

The result should look like this triangle. The single edges of the paper running along the top as in the picture above.

Step 5

step5

The folded sheet is now ready to be cut. Cut the paper the way you see it in the above picture. If you need me to verbalize how it is being cut…I have told you below.

(In cutting the paper, start from the diagonal of the triangle and make a cut parallel to the top edge, stopping  just short of the folded edge at the right. Then cut from the folded edge back toward the diagonal, stopping short of the diagonal. Continue with these alternating cuts.)

Step 6

step6

Now, open out the paper carefully  and it will look like this.

 Step 7

gilded paper bird cage papercraft for kids

Gather the corners of the paper and shake the center downward. By twisting the corners, or setting them together  with tape or a rubber band, you form the fancy paper cage as shown in the picture.

I think you can probably make one of these is 20 or 30 minutes. And these sock bunnies turn out so adorable that you are going to make a few of them so your bunnies can keep each other company. This shouldn’t be played with by young kids who might eat the rubber bands if they come off!

Crafts Materials Needed

– 1 Stretchy Sock  – I used Knee High Girls Socks

Step 1 Thru 9 How to Make a Simple No-Sew Sock Bunny Rabbit for Easter or for Fun

We have a crafts tutorial for making a no-sew sock doll. Steps 1-9 are the same for this tutorial…so first go to the sock doll tutorial, and do steps 1-9 and then come back to this tutorial for step 10. Your doll should look like the above picture when you are done with step 9.

Step 10

Step 10

Now cut the top part in half…as seen in picture above.

[ad#ahc]

Step 11

Step 11

Now, in this picture above, we have already done one of the 2 sides. The left side has been braided already…we did this by cutting the left side into three strips and then braiding that side and rubber banding the end as if it was hair. Now the right side needs to be done…we cut the right side into 3 strips…now we just need to braid it. If you don’t know how to braid, please see this tutorial.

real-pic-06

Now both sides should be braided and look like this.

Step 12

Step 12

Now both the right side and left side is looped into a letter ‘U’ shape. Then hold both loops together in the center and rubber band both sides together. I used more than one rubber band to make sure both sides stayed together.

Step 13

Step 13

Cut a second sock in half.

Step 14

Step 14

Now put the bottom of the sock (toe part) on top of the bunny.

Step 15

Step 15

Now fold up the bottom of the sock…so it is rolled up like a normal winter hat is.

Step 16

Step 17

Now cut a small slit on both sides of the hat.

Step 17

Step 18

Now pull an ear thru

real-pic14

And another ear thru.

Step 18

Step 19

Cut a nose out of fabric or felt (a triangle shape). Use a button(s) for eyes.

Step 19

Step 19

Ask mom or dad to help you hot glue the eyes and nose on. That is it…you have a stuffed bunny rabbit to play with. Wasn’t that easy?!

This shouldn’t be played with by young kids who might eat the rubber bands if they come off!

How to Make an Afikoman Bag for Passover

Passover starts in about a week and I thought that some of our Jewish followers might want a Passover craft. Today I will show you how to make an Afikoman Bag, which can then be used to hide Matzah for the little kiddies to search for. Although I sewed this Afikoman Bag, you could use fabric glue to put your Afikoman bag together. Learn how to make it below.

How to Make an Afikomen Bag for Passover

Crafts Materials Needed:

Long Piece of Felt or Fabric

A Second Color of Fabric to Use for Letters and Stars

Either Needle and Thread or Fabric Glue

Scissors

Step 1

step1 step2

You May Use Felt or Fabric, either one is fine. Place a piece of Matza on the Felt and measure out enough felt to place two and a half pieces of matzah. This will be enough felt to make your bag.

Then place the matzah a little bit to the right of the center of the felt. Then fold the felt over the matzah as seen in the picture above.

Step 2

step3

Now sew on either side of the felt (or use fabric glue), as seen in the picture above.

[ad#ahc]

Step 3

step4

Now the right side of the felt will be the flap. You can fold it over now.

Step 4

step4b

Like This.

Step 5

step5

Now Push fabric inwards to form a triangle (in the same fashion you would do with wrapping paper when wrapping a present). Pin the triangle in place with a safety pin or sewing pins, then sew the triangle so that the fabric stays like this…this will be the flap.

This is What the Flap Looks Like When Sewn

step5b

Above is what the flap looks like when open.

step5c

And this is what the flap looks like from the inside.

Step 6

step6

I think yellow and blue are perfect for this craft because it is the colors of Israel and Judaism. Get some yellow felt and cut out some letters. I used Find Me for the outside of the Afikoman bag and Yay for the inside. But I’ve seen ‘Find This’ for the outside and ‘Found It’ on the inside. The normal thing to do is to write Afikoman on the outside or in hebrew  –

אפיקומן

Step 7

step7

Before sewing or gluing letters on, put cardboard into the bag to keep you from sewing bag’s two sides together.

Step 8

finished-afikomen-bag-craft-for-passover

Sew the letters on the front – ‘Find Me’ or ‘Afikoman’ or אפיקומן  or what you wish.

Sew the letters on the inside – ‘Found Me’ or ‘Yay’ or what you wish.

Finish Up

step9

Now wrap some matzah in a cloth napkin and then place in your bag. Close the flap and then hide it someplace. Let kiddies go searching for it. Give the ones who find the matzah some sort of prize. Have fun and Happy Passover!
